Biography
The most random thing of trivial interest about Rick Kosick is that he was conceived in the future home of America’s most infamous killer clown, John
Wayne Gacy, just before his parents moved out west. Beyond that, he was just your average product of suburban American up until he took a passionate
interest in sports, music and art—or rather its more rebellious aspects: skateboarding, punk rock and photography. Kosick eventually took all three
of these pursuits and turned them into a freelance profession when he started out as a photographer for Poweredge and Slap magazines, documenting the
Southern California skateboard scene in the late 80s and early 90s. Then, in 1992, he formally joined the tight knit staff of idiots over at Big Brother, the
skateboard magazine from which MTV’s jackass would be created in 2000.
Through his involvement with Big Brother and its subsequent video series—shit (1995), number two (1998), boob (1999) and crap (2000)—Kosick became one of the most recognizable photographers in skateboard history with his likeness even being featured on a pro model skateboard for Andrew Reynolds produced by Birdhouse skateboards in 2000. Kosick’s photography also caught the attention of The Deftones, a rock band that contracted him to shoot the cover image to its Gold-selling album Around The Fur (this cover was later voted by Revolver Magazine as one of “the greatest metal covers ever”).
In addition to his filming work on MTV’s jackass television series, Kosick frequently appeared on the show as “himself”, a duel-purpose role he fulfilled on
its subsequent major motion picture releases jackass the movie (2002), jackass number two (2006) and jackass 3D (2010). He also worked as a cameraman on the MTV series Wildboyz (2003-2005), Rob & Big (2007) and Nitro Circus (2008-2009). In 2007, Kosick directed, produced and edited the direct to DVD title Ultimate Predator, featuring the crazy animal encounters of Manny Puig, and then became a digital content producer for the fast and furious online lifespan of jackassworld.com (2008-2009).
Currently, Rick Kosick works as a freelance production workhorse, having directed, produced, and edited music videos for HDR, Roger Alan Wade, The
Smut Peddlers, Li’l Wyte with the Three 6 Mafia, House of Broken Promises and Scream For Me.
There are no bodies buried beneath his floorboards (he lives in a second story apartment building in Los Angeles, California).
